WISH Impact
Our commitment to meaningful and engaging instruction fuels our mission, vision, and six tenets. We pair these efforts with our belief that academic excellence and social justice through inclusivity are basic civil rights for all students. Here is one snapshot of how WISH is making a difference every day.
Achievement
Each day we see firsthand the positive impact of having students with various strengths and needs, ranging from highly gifted to those with extensive support needs, learning together. And we see it in our ELA and Math test scores that outperform the State of California, consistently doubling the state averages in both subjects and on par with some of the best scores in the country.
Educator Support
Each year WISH shares our tenets and best practices in education with educators near and far. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation recently provided funding for a series of educational videos called Excellence Together, which focuses on a few of our signature practices and distance learning strategies for educators and families serving students with significant support needs. From appearing on panels and providing regular contributions to academic papers to hosting tours and online webinars, WISH educators welcome the chance to share what’s working for them and learn from others.
Community Service
Since our beginning, service to the community has been at the heart of the WISH educational experience. Students at WISH begin engaging in service-learning projects in TK and continue with increasingly impactful projects through 12th Grade. Our goal is to create an environment where serving others is an essential part of life at school and in our student’s everyday lives. From the outset, WISH students live the core value of service conveyed in Anne Frank’s quote:
How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.
To date, WISH students have provided more than 80,000 service-learning hours in support of more than 200 activities and non-profit organizations.
